Fishermen of Srinivasapuram, which lies at the far end of the Foreshore Estate neighbourhood had a big catch of fish on Monday afternoon. But some of them said that the fish seemed to have died due to pollution in the Adyar river.
They said that the catch was easy and large in quantity – a rare occurrence this season. Much of the catch was made at the point where the river flows into the sea.
Later in the afternoon, many women and men were seen packing the fish into crates to be sent off to the markets. It could not be cross-checked if much of the fish drifted into the catch because it had been affected by pollutants in the river.
