For families who celebrated Sri Vinayaka Chathurthi and then had to immerse the image, it called for some tossing of ideas to locate places where the images could be immersed.
Today, there are hardly any open wells or small water bodies in the Mylapore neighbourhood.
Many who live in the south side of R. A. Puram chose to head to the Adyar river side for the immersion. The bridge provides for this to be carried out quickly.
So all through Sunday, one witnessed scored of individuals, couples and others immersing the images in the river. However the down side of all this was the civic mess that many left behind – plastic covers used to transport the images.
The roadside and pavement had heaps of plastic on either side.
