AIM for Seva launched its first retail outlet ‘Spirit of the Earth’ in Mylapore last weekend.
The store will stock organic heritage rice, handmade products made by tribal women of Tamil Nadu and residents of Krupa Home (a residential facility for the differently-abled) and books on good living written by Swami Dayananda Saraswati.
Spirit of the Earth stocks these varieties of rice for now – Kaatuyaanam, Kalajeera, Karuppu Kauvuni, Kichili Champa, Iluppai Poo Champa, Mappillai Champa, Thooyamalli, grown in the Kaveri Delta region.
“Spirit of the Earth symbolises sustenance, compassion and wisdom. Rice is our basic need for sustenance. India once had over 10,000 varieties of rice, today we barely know of 200 ones. Our people in the villages are extremely skilled and creative and deserve to get recognised. And for our residents at Krupa Home, weaving is a therapy and pleasure for them. So we thought of bringing it all together under one roof”, says Sheela Balaji, Chairperson and Managing Trustee, AIM for Seva.
At Third Floor, Srinidhi Apartment, 4, Desika Road, Mylapore. From Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For store details contact 9500082142.
