About two months ago, the residents of Ramaniyam Abbotsbury Apartments at C. P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet decided to implement source segregation at their complex. But despite efforts, the results were not encouraging and the process needed to be reviewed.
Fired by the idea, the children there, decided to pitch in. They knocked on the doors of all the 70 residents there, explained the concept to them and asked them to come for a meeting.
The meeting, held last weekend, was chaired by a group of 8 children aged 6 – 12 years. Reasons for poor compliance were explained and the suggestions of colour coding bins properly and setting up boards with a clear pictorial representation were presented.
The recommendations were then handed over to the members of the association there for further action.
