This year was the 28th edition of Kartik Fine Art’s Kodai Nataka Vizha. Mayurapriya’s production Vivahamalai.com walked away with the award for the best drama.
The play also won awards in many other categories – best actor/actress, story writer, dialogue, special prize actor / actress, best light and scene companies and best background music.
The members of the troupe are all amateurs who have taken up acting out of their own interest. Roshini Mohan, who won the award for best actress, is a college student. Another team member, Kaushik, is a doctor and yet another, Uma Mohan, is a house wife.
The trio, who founded the company, is made of H. Parameshwaran, P. Muthukumaran and Ganapathi Shankar. While Parameshwaran is employed in the private sector, Muthukumaran is a retired employee of AGS office and Ganapathi works for Canara Bank. All are residents of Mylapore
‘We pick socially relevant themes for our plays and present them in a simple manner. So we are able to strike a chord with the public’, says Parameshwaran. ‘Many people approach us out of their interest to work with us’, he adds.
