With the release of the State Board Plus Two results on Friday, May 12, the volunteers at
R. A. Puram based suicide prevention centre Sneha are prepared to receive calls from anxious
parents and students. The number to call is 24640050.
A volunteer there says, “We have been receiving calls from worried students for over a week
now. On an average we receive about 50 calls a day, but after the exams that spikes to more
than 100 a day”
Emotional support is provided to the callers, says the volunteer. “We listen to their issues and
ask them to focus on the positive aspects only. If they are willing to listen, we give them
options too”.
If the distress is high, we follow up and make sure they are calm before options are given.
The centre is open for visits from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on all days, no appointment needed.
Their 24×7 hotline contact is 24640050.
The centre is located at 11, Park View Road, R. A. Puram.
