The dry Chitrakulam tank has been cleared of bushes and vegetation. Workers did the job a few days ago and then burnt the refuse on the tank bed.
The tank which is of the Sri Adi Kesavaperumal Temple, located close to it dried up some seven weeks ago, though it did have some water in March.
Civic activists say that this is the time to desilt the tank and dig deeper and clear the soil so that the tank can hold more water when it rains. This will help recharge the ground and raise the water level here.
The Sri Kapali Temple tank is almost dry now, save for small pools of water.
