Celebrations are currently on at Sri Rangamannar Temple at Bheemana Mudali 2nd Street, Alwarpet to mark the 1000th birth anniversary of Sri Ramanujar.
The festivities will go on till May 2 and will include a veedi purappadu around the streets of Alwarpet including Desika Road, De Silva Road and Warren Road on the last two days. Daily events include a Sri Ramanujar utsavar thirumanjanam in the morning and music concerts in the evening.
On May 2, the chief guest, Veena E. Gayathri, vice chancellor, Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University, will present the Sri Ramanujar Sangeetha Seva Ratna Awards to ten upcoming artistes.
