Jaya Ramakrishnan has been an active social worker for a couple of decades. She joined Women’s Indian Association when she moved to Chennai from Delhi, 22 years ago, and has been with this organization which is currently celebrating its centenary.
She travels to various parts of the city in her zest to provide service – running a tuition center and taking tailoring classes for women among the many activities. She also runs a medical center in Varadarajapuram- bringing doctors to the center to provide medical service free of charge to the people there.
“I never cite lack of time as an excuse to do something. I don’t watch TV at all, instead I run my centers”, she says.
