This Tuesday evening, Archbishop of the Catholic diocese of Madras-Mylapore, Rev. Dr. George Antonysamy will celebrate what is called a Chrism Mass, at the San Thome Cathedral.
At this Mass, held during the Holy Week which began this Sunday – a week when the final days of Jesus is commemorated and the community observes a season of reflection and repentance – the archbishop will bless oils.
The oils will be used at baptism ( when a child/adult is formally blessed to become part of the church) and on the sick during special services or visits.
The Chrism Mass is an old practice of the church at this time of the religious calendar.
Today’s mass starts 4.30 p.m.
