V. C. Garden First Street at Mandaveli has been in a bad shape for quite some time now. The road was dug up repeatedly and has not been relaid causing inconvenience, especially to parents during school hours.
The road has been dug up yet again, this time by Metro Water officials to facilitate faster sewage flow. G. M. Ramalingam, the area engineer, Zone 9, says, “The existing 700 mm diameter pipes are being relaid with 1000 mm pipes. Each pipe is about 5.5 meters in length. Pipes will be changed from the North Mylapore pumping station to Adyar pumping station covering a distance of more than 3 kms”.
This is being done as the pipes have become old. Changing the pipes will prevent leaks, he adds.
The project is expected to be completed in three months.
