The Annakooda Thirupavadai mahotsavam will be held at Sri Vedanta Desikar Temple, Mylapore on Sunday, Mar. 5.
On that day, a special thirumanjam will be held for Sri Srinivasa Perumal, Goddess Alarmelmangai Thayar and Swami Desikan. After which the thirupavadai will be offered to the Lord.
Anna-koota means assembly of rice items in different forms and flavours. A variety of rice items like puliyodharai and pongal, sweet and savouries and a huge quantity of kadhamba-rice will be arranged in a manner so as to resemble a pavadai (robe). Hence the name Thiru-pavadai. After offering the same to the deity, it will be distributed to the devotees.
The utsavam will conclude with the grand procession of Perumal and Desikan, followed by a pathi-ulathal of Perumal, Thayar and Swami Desikan in the evening.
The utsavam, which started 13 years ago, is being performed every year under the auspices of ‘Sri Srinivasa Perumal Vedantha Desikar Kainkarya Trust’. For details contact the temple at 24612428.
