A huge avenue tree came crashing down on Saturday night on C. P.Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet.
The tree was standing on the edge of the road at the Dr. Ranga Road junction where a couple of fruit hawkers run their trade.
Traffic from the flyover to south-side was closed for some time as civic workers chopped the fallen tree and then had to pull the massive root-and-trunk part to the pavement side.
Many trees fall down in the rain because their root system is suffocated with tar and cement tiles used to lay sidewalks or relay roads.
