The last day of Navaratri or Vijayadashmi is considered to be an auspicious day for new beginnings. In the Mylapore area, parents and children assembled at local play schools yesterday (Oct 11) to take part in the Aksharabyasam ceremony, wherein children write their first words on rice husk.
