Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations were lively and colourful in the Mylapore area. Women, dressed in grand pattu sarees and girls in their pavadais were seen making rounds of the area and visiting relatives and friends.
At homes, the festivities were simple. For Vinodh and his family (seen in the picture), who stay at Mandavelipakkam, the celebrations started with the purchase of an eco-friendly clay idol.
After delicacies like kozhukottai- both sweet and savoury, vada, rava idli and sundal were prepared, a small puja was done and the items were offered as naivedyam.
Elsewhere, small groups assembled outside the temples at street corners to offer prayers to their favourite deity.
