14 year old Shishir Kumar, a student of Robbinsville High School, New Jersey, USA delighted the people gathered around the Chess Square of Nageswara Rao Park, Luz with a saxaphone kutcheri this Sunday, Aug 7 as part of the monthly Sunday ‘Kutcheri in the Park’ organised by Sundaram Finance.
Shishir, who is a student of Jana (Senior disciple of Dr. Kadri Gopalnath) was accompanied by S. Subashree (Disciple of Lalitha Raghavan) on the violin and by V. Balaji (Disciple of Thiruvarur Sri Bhakthavatsalam) on the mridangam.
Shishir presented compositions that included Adirondaar (Maya Malava Goulai) and Nagumomu (Abheri). Two popular songs Marudhamalai Maa Maniye (Darbari Kanada) and Bho Shambo (Revathy) were also presented. Shishir also learns vocal carnatic music.
Mylapore MLA R. Natraj who was present on the occasion, handed over certificates and mementos to the artistes.
The idea behind ‘Kutcheri in the Park’ organised by Sundaram Finance on the first Sunday of every month is to provide a launch pad for young musicians aged 15 and below. No mikes and speakers are used at the kutcheri. A committee from Sundaram Finance conducts auditions to select the artistes.
