Fascinated by rowing as a sport? Want to learn the basics from the experts? Here is your chance! The Madras Boat Club is planning a Rowing Coaching Camp with an International Coach and coxswain, from August 1 to 21.
Madras Boat Club (MBC) is a 150-year-old institution, located on the banks of the Adyar River. Over the years, the Club has produced oarsmen and oarswomen who have excelled in championships at the inter-club, national and international level.
The Coaching Camp will be conducted by Alex Mann, Men’s Light Weight team coach from USA, co-directed by Teja Senthilnathan from CRI, Boston, and by Abraham Kandathil, former India coach and currently Captain of Madras Boat Club, with support from senior rowers from the Club.
The camp would be ideal for: Beginners – Those who wish to be initiated into the sport (working professionals above the age of 21). Those who wish to join the Club as Student Members (14 to 21 years of age).
Elite rowers of MBC who wish to hone their skills and learn more about fitness and training.
Camp registration fees Rs. 3000. There will be morning and evening sessions of coaching – one of the sessions will be allocated for beginners and the other for intermediate or elite rowers.
Fundamentals of Sweep Rowing, Rowing Techniques and Boat Safety, Basic concepts of Hydration, Diet, Flexibility and Core Strength for Rowing will be covered.
Knowledge of swimming is essential. Timings – 6.00 to 8.00 am, and evening session: 4.30 to 6.30 pm. A maximum of 25 registrations are planned (register before July 30). Ideal age group would be from 14 years to 35 years.
