Metrowater says that the large diameter pipes being laid in the neighbourhood are part of the project to increase the sewage carrying capacity in this part of the city.
It says work is under progress at Devanathan Street now and is to commence soon at V. C. Garden 1st Street and Thiruvengadam Street.
A senior officer told Mylapore Times that 1000mm CI pipes stocked in Devanathan Street and surrounding areas will be laid within a month.
Laying of 1000mm diameter CI mains from North Mylapore pumping station to Adyar pumping station is in progress.
Work is completed in Ramachandran Street, Justice Sundaram Road and part of P. S .Sivasamy Salai.
Now it is for Chennai Corporation to execute the road relaying works.
