Yet another edition of the Basics in Computer Classes Lab has started at St Lazarus Middle School. This Lab is funded by the Mylapore Times Charitable Trust (MTCT) which receives donations from the Mylapore Times newspaper as well as its readers and well-wishers.
The classes introduce Std.8 students of this middle school on Madha Church Road, Mandavelipakkam to the basics of computers. The aim is to familiarize these students to usage of software and hardware and introduce them to skills that will encourage them to further these studies and also help gain employment.
This year, five sessions will be held and 100 plus Std.8 students will be trained. They all get certificates.
Mylapore Times staffer Parameshwaran is a volunteer here – he handles the classes every morning in a small room in this school run by the Bon Secours nuns.
The 12 computers and some accessories like a scanner and a printer have been donated over the years but the needs are growing. There is a need to install three more PCs and one printer.
Funds are also required to pay for the teacher and maintain the Lab.
Donors who wish to do so may contact Mylapore Times at 24982244; they can also drop by at the Lab on a working day to appreciate the work and support it.
MTCT has existed for 20 years. It has supported the poor students at this school for over 15 years.
