The flag was hoisted today (May 12) at Sri Velleswarar Temple, Mylapore to mark the first day of the Vaigasi festival which will go on till June 1. For the next ten days, till May 21, the deities will be decorated and taken on a procession around the Mada streets on different vahanams. Highlights include surya vattam on May 13, adikara nandi on May 14, rishaba vahanam on May 16, thiruther on May 18 and thirukalyanam on May 21.
