With Vishu, the new year festival celebrated in the state of Kerala, and Tamil New Year falling on the same day (April 14), several families in the Mylapore neighbourhood got an opportunity to celebrate both festivals on the same day.
M. K. Ramkumar (seen in the picture) and his family got up early to view the vishu kanni. ‘We are from Palakkad and we celebrate both festivals. This year we combined both traditional Kerala and Tamil Nadu cuisines for our lunch menu”. They are residents of Thiruveedhi Amman Koil Street, Mandaveli.
At V. Murali’s house, the entire house was cleaned and decorated. A small puja was done with special flowers. An elaborate menu with items like vada, semiya payasam and manga pachadi were offered to the deity before being consumed by the members of the family. They reside at Karaneeswarar Koil Street, Mylapore.
