Mylaporeans facing the wrath of the sun were in for a pleasant surprise on Friday, April 8. A group of enthusiastic CAN Doers descended on the streets of Alwarpet and Mylapore to distribute fresh, chilled buttermilk and to create awareness about people with disabilities in the neighbourhood
Instead of a static pandal, the members of CAN DO, an Alwarpet based social initiative, roamed the streets with a distribution vehicle quenching the thirst of close to 250 people with more than 50 litres of buttermilk. The vehicle used for distribution had a bold message – ‘People with Disabilities do not need our sympathy, just our support and the opportunity to prove themselves’.
They plan to carry out this activity once a week in and around the Mylapore area till June.
CAN DO provides training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities,
visually impaired and hearing impaired. People with locomotor disabilities are trained/employed in lead generation, date collection and digitization of documents and photographs. For details contact Raja at 9840052164.
