The Mylapore Trio – Amarnath, Surendranath, Aparna and members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation celebrated the birth centenary of K. Sumukhi in a very grand manner at the prayer hall of Lady Sivaswami Girls School, Mylapore on Sunday, April 17. The chief guest was veteran playback singer and alumnus Vani Jairam.
The day began at 10 a.m. with the welcome address by Aparna. This was followed by a classical dance performance by Sugathan, the foundation secretary. Later the chief guest talked about Sumukhi’s contribution and opined that her teacher was an iconic figure in the home science department from whom she learnt several valuable lessons.
The Mylapore Trio then handed over a cheque of Rs. 50,000 to the school authorities towards creating an endowment in the name of ‘Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Birth Centenary Scholarship’ for the best home science student.
The guests were given gifts as a token of remembrance. More than 150 alumni members including academicians, artists, retired officials, professors and teachers attended this event.
