As part of the monthly Sunday ‘Kutcheri in the Park’ event organised by Sundaram Finance, 12 year old Nandita Shankar, a class VII student of PSBB Millennium School presented a mikeless kutcheri at Nageswara Rao Park yesterday (March 6).
Nandita who is learning music from guru Niranjana Srinivasan, was accompanied by R. Mathura Mathangi (student of Villivakkam S. Raghuraman) on the violin and KP Arjun Sundaram (student of Thillaistanam Suriyanarayanan) on the mridangam.
Nandita presented compositions that included brochevarevarura (kamas – adi), bhanturithi (hamsanadham – adi), ramanukku mannan mudi (indholam – adi), eppo varuvaaro (jonpuri– adi), mamava pattabhirama (manirangu – misra chapu) and maragadha valli (kaambhoji – adi).
G Sundararajan, CFO, Sundaram Home Finance presented certificates and mementoes to the artistes.
No mikes and speakers are used at this event. Organised on the first Sunday of every month, this event provides opportunities to children below the age of 15 years to present their talent in front of an informal park audience amidst chirping birds and falling leaves. More than 1000 children have presented kutcheris since the event was launched in Feb 2006. Sundaram Finance conducts auditions to select the artistes.
