The TN State Human Rights Commission has taken duo motu notice of the delay in the work of repairing a Metrowater pipeline across P S Sivaswamy Road, Mylapore.
It has sent notices to the Metrowater and Chennai Corporation on this issue.
The road has been closed to traffic since November 2015 when the road collapsed and Metrowater found out that there was a major fault in its pipeline that needed repairs. It now appears that the contractor who handled the project seems to have had issues and that Metrowater says it does not have funds allocated to do emergency works.
The problem not only created a traffic issue with vehicles forced to take a long diversion but it also created pollution due to the amount of debris and dust created by the work.
Many residents here have complained in the past but Metrowater has not put out a public note on this project and kept people informed.
