A group of girls, all residents of Mylapore, had their dance arangetram on Feb 6. They are all students of Sri Mahalakshmi Natyalaya, Avigna Dance Ensemble.
The girls are Mahema, Sharmila, Sai Yaazhiny, Lekhashree, Kerlin Thressia, Vidhya lakshmi and Heidi. ‘All of them joined the dance school when they were 4 or 5 years old and have been learning together since then. Even though it is customary to give individual performances for arangetrams, the girls wanted a group event, since they have been learning together for many years’ says Manju, mother of Mahema.
They started learning from Saroja Kameswaran, who along with her husband, founded the school in 1967. Now, they are being trained by G. Narendra and K. Mahalakshmi.
‘Their performance was very well coordinated, all their movements were in total sync all through’, adds Manju.
The girls are students of Rosary Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, Montfort Academy Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya and St. John’s Sr. Sec School.
