The Chess Square inside Nageswara Rao Park, Luz now has a roof. While the metal scaffolding for the roof was put up in November, work was abandoned during the early December rains.
The past few days, workers have set in place pre-fabricated sheets over the skeletal structure at the Chess Square, thus creating a roof for this area.
It is said that some walkers here had suggested to the city Mayor that a protected area be set up for walkers who could seek shelter when it rained and hence this facility.
Sundaram Finance uses the Chess Square to host its monthly ‘mike-less’ concerts, featuring young artistes, solo or as a group.
Has the beautiful open chess square lost the charm? While functional, could it have been done more tastefully? or another spot made a shelter?
