On Dec 30 afternoon, representatives from seven different religions got together at Srinivasa Gandhi Nilayam at Alwarpet to offer a prayer for peace. After the welcome prayer, a Hindu prayer was offered by Padmaja Vasudev who sang a few verses from the Bhagavad Gita. This was followed by recitals from the Quran by Moulvi B. M. Khaleelur Rahman Mandaye and from the Bible by Merrita.
Later prayers were held by other communities including a sikh prayer by the head priest of Gurunanak Sat Sangh Sabha – Pratipal Singh, a Jain prayer by the students of Shri Jadavbhai Nathmal Singhvee Jain Vidyalaya Mat. School, a buddhist prayer by E. Anbab and a Zoroastrian prayer by Pervez Mulla. Books were then distributed to all the representatives.
