A national conference on the ‘Iconography of Hindus, Buddhists and Jains’ will be held at C. P. R. Institute of Indological Research on Jan 8 and 9.
The event, which will include an exhibition of bronze items by Tamilnadu Handicrafts Development Corporation (Poompuhar), will be inaugurated by Dr. Y. Sudershan Rao, chairman, ICHR, New Delhi and guru Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam on Jan 8 at 9.30 a.m. Two books will be released – ‘Iconography of Karttikeya by Dr. V. Sandhiyalakshmi and ‘Deva Pratima’ by Dr. Nanditha Krishna. Awards will be conferred on Dr. K. V. Raman and Dr. R. Nagaswamy for their lifetime contribution to Indian art history.
The event on Jan 9 will include a special lecture by Dr. Ratan Parimoo and Dr. Devangana Desai in the morning and two technical sessions in the afternoon. The valedictory function will be held on Jan 9 at 4 p.m. Dr. R. Nagaswamy will deliver the valedictory address and Dr. Nanditha Krishna, director of the Institute will preside.
