Bhogi – the first day of pongal was celebrated with great vigour in the neighbourhood. At Mylapore and Mandaveli, several residents were seen cleaning their homes and collecting all the unwanted goods.
At Sringeri Mutt Road, Mandaveli a group of young boys from the area threw useless household articles into a small bonfire made out of wood. Later, they sang songs to the beat of their drums.
