For about five days now, the volunteers at Bhoomika Trust, a Mylapore based NGO founded by film maker Jayendra Panchapakesan have been working non-stop to provide relief to the flood victims.
For a few days last week, operations were conducted at three places in the Mylapore area – Kuchipudi Art Academy and Sringeri Math at R. A. Puram and P. S. School at R. K. Mutt Road. Today their operations have been shifted to Rama Kalyana Mandapam at Cathedral Garden School Road, behind Palmgrove Hotel at Nungambakkam.
A volunteer V. Purushothaman talks about what has been happening at the venue since morning. He says, “More than 200 volunteers are here today. We have set a target of about 15000 ration kits today. Each kit will have a few kilos of rice and dhal, 1 litre oil, 1 kilo salt, tamarind, turmeric, chilli, garam masala power and more than a kilo of potato and onion”.
Since last Tuesday, 10000 food packets have been delivered to the residents of Choolaimedu, Tondiarpet, Vysarpadi and other areas every day.
