The month of margazhi has broken this morning and the season of prayer and music was evident in the streets of Mylapore and inside its temples and prayer spaces too.
In the inner streets, people got down to design their best kolams, some designs so stunning that walkers stopped to appreciate them.
By 7 a.m., at least three groups began to do the rounds of the mada streets singing bhajans and songs of the season. Among them was the group of Dr Rukmini Ramani, who carries on the tradition of maestro Papanasam Sivan.
