Lions Clubs International, District 324A1, organised a meeting on Oct 15 to commemorate “International White Cane Day” at Queen Mary’s College, Mylapore.
V. Kannappan, district chairperson welcomed the chief guest – past district governor – Dr. K. S. Lakshmi and guests of honour Dr. Akthar Begum, principal of the college and Khadija Hatim, a visually impaired mobility trainer.
Khadija Hatim talked about her life experience and why she chose to be a trainer and educator for the visually impaired. She also demonstrated the use of the white cane and smart cane to two students. Later the chief guest presented 50 white canes to the principal.
