Soundarya Lahari is one of the literary works of Sri Adi Shankarar in Sanskrit, containing 100 slokas describing the beauty, grace and many facets of Goddess Parvathi. Lalitha Srinivasan, a Carnatic musician has translated these verses in Tamil under the supervision of Dr. Thyagarajan, Head of Sanskrit Department (Retd.), Presidency College, Chennai.
These songs have been set to music by Lalita Santanam, a resident of Mandaveli, and released in the form of a CD. She has grouped these 100 slokas into 5 of 20 each and has composed them in five different raagas viz. Revathy, Dharmavathy, Hymavathy, Saraswathy and Madhyamavathy. She has also named this composition as Raaga Panchavathy.
Dr. Lalita Santanam is a perfoming artist, composer and has trained more than 50 students in Carnatic music in Chennai. She has a doctorate in the field of South Indian Classical Music.
In this CD, her voice has been accompanied by her Guru Dr. R.S. Jayalakshmi on the veena and by Shri Sivakumar. Contact her at 9444164824.
