The 11th edition of Bharat Sangeet Utsav will be kicked off on Oct 30 this year with a special sangeet ceremony dedicated to M. S. Subbulakshmi by Dr. Sudha Raja’s Sargam Choir. Organised by Carnatica in association with Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, the event has some interesting combo concerts featuring noted artistes.
At the inaugural function, the great grand daughter of M. S. Subbulakshmi – S. Aishwarya will be presenting ‘M. S. S. 100’ to commemorate the legendary singer’s birth centenary year. The festival will be presided over by N. Gopalaswami, chairman, Kalakshetra and former election commissioner.
Ariel. H. Pollock, acting consul, U. S. Consulate General is the chief guest and Mallika Ravi, group CEO, Lancor Holding Limited is the guest of honour. Maya Azucena, an American singer and songwriter, will give a special performance. Musician Sanjay Subrahmanyam will be felicitated during the event.
Other artistes who will be performing at this event include Aruna Sairam, Nithyashree Mahadevan, Malladi Brothers and Priya Sisters. Combo performances include a concert by Grammy award winners Viswamohan Bhat and Vikku Vinayakram titled ‘Grammy Meet’, a Thiruppugazh song ’Sri Arunagiriyin Anubhoopathi’ by Umayalpuram Dr. K. Sivaraman and Sikkil. C. Gurucharan and ‘Vainika – Gayaka’ by Neyveli Santhanagopalan and Dr. S. Sowmya.
On the final day, ’Laya Vinyasam’ – a concert by Mannargudi Vasudevan, Anantha R. Krishnan and B. Sree Sundarkumar will be held. The grand finale “Bharat Sangeet” – a thematic Indian music medley will feature Sashank (flute) with Anil Srinivasan (piano) followed by a carnatic vocal concert — a collaboration between S. Haricharan and Subhiksha Rangarajan (both playback singers).
