Temples in the Mylapore area have started preparing for Vinayaka Chaturthi which falls on Sep 17 this year. Here is a look at some of the events organised by them.
Sri Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple at Luz Church Road, Luz will be conducting its Vinayaka Chaturthi festival from Sep 16 to 22. Daily events include an abhishekam in the morning and a deepa aradhanai in the evening. On Sep 17, a special abhishekam will be held for the diety in the morning at 11 a.m. On Sep 22, the diety will be taken on a procession (Thiruveethi ula) around the streets of Mylapore at 7.30 p.m.
A series of concerts and other programmes have been planned in the evening on all the seven days. Highlights include performances by Kadri Gopalnath (saxaphone) on Sep 16, Veeramani Raju (devotional songs) on Sep 17 and Nithyashree Mahadevan on Sep 21. From Sep 18 – 20, eminent scholars will participate in debates (Pattimandram) judged by S. Raja, Aru. Nagappan and Dr. Ilampiarai Manimaran to be held in the evening at 7.30 p.m. For details call 24991881.
Sri Balavinayagar Temple, Mylapore, will be celebrating Vinayaka Chaturthi till Sep 18. Daily events include pooja and archanai in the morning and evening, with sandana kappu for the diety in the evening. Special abhishekam has been planned on Sep 17. On Sep 18, the diety will be taken on a procession around the local streets in the evening.
Musical programmes have also been planned as a part of the celebration. Highlights include vocal music concerts by Sudha Raghunathan on Sep 10 and Sikkil Gurucharan on Sep 11 and a veena recital by Rajesh Vaidhya on Sep 14. All programmes will be held at 8 p.m. at temple premises. At 1, Bhaktavatsalam Road, Mylapore.
Sri Siddhi Budhi Sametha Sri Karpaga Vinayagar Temple, R. A. Puram, is conducting Ganapathy homams daily at 7 a.m. till Sep 16. A special day long laksharchanai has been planned for Sep 13. On Sep 17, the events start from 5.45 a.m. Pooja, abhishekam and archanai will be performed in the morning and sandana kappu in the evening, followed by a procession of the diety at 7 p.m.
Musical events at the temple include a vocal performance by Vishnudev Namboothiri on Sep 18 and Harikatha by Varsha Bhuvaneswari and group on Sep 19 at 5.30 p.m. Students from the Oppilal School of Music will give a performance at 2 p.m. on Sep 20, followed by a programme by R.
