It will not be perhaps until the weekend that hawkers will set up stalls on North Mada Street in Mylapore, to sell kolu dolls for the Navaratri festival. Though a few shops have displayed a limited number of dolls they received in the first consignment, the sales are kept low-key.
One assumes that the hawkers have been told to open up only later so that traffic is not unduly affected for a long period of time.
One hawker said they hope to get fresh consignments only next week. Some are also wary about the rain since the dolls are left open for sales and covered and left there on the pavement at night.
