About 200 NCC and NSS students from Murugappa Polytechnic College, Avadi and Velammal Engineering College, Red Hills cleaned the area around Chitrakulam today morning (Sep 19) to commemorate International Coastal Clean Up Day.
These young adults with brooms and bags in hand, started collecting trash at around 8 a.m. and managed to collect about 60 bags of garbage, each weighing 40 kgs by noon. Plastics and bio degradeable waste were separated to increase an awareness about the need to maintain a plastic free and clean environment. Later, students were treated to refreshments.
Great job by the NCC and NSS volunteers. However it is very important to ensure that the area continues to remain clean by posting volunteers to counsel the litterers, putting up posters and also by periodic cleaning .
