One part of the finale of the year-long century celebrations of Queen Mary’s College will be held on July 15. The alumnae community says that it will be a day-long event. A official finale for July 14 is still being discussed by management and the state, said alumnae.
There is some talk that the host would like to invite the chief minister to this milestone event but nothing has been confirmed – Jayalalithaa had stopped by at the QMC gate on her way to the Secretariat and received a bouquet of flowers and shared her wishes on the opening day of the centenary event last year.
On July 15, the highlight of the day will be the release of a coffee table book on the college that has been put together by one alumnae team – it contains lots of old photos of the college and extracts from past newsletters and magazines/journals.
Nithya Balaji, who headed the team on this project says that the book will make a great souvenir and has been produced at great cost. It will be on sale soon.
