Chithirai Thiruvadhirai utsavam is perhaps a unique celebration. It is planned, executed and celebrated by a group of young people. Young Abhishek hails from a family of Sivacharyas who served at Sri Kapali Temple and reside on East Tank Street, alongside the temple tank. Every year, he and his neighbourhood group organize a religious event that celebrates Sri Kapali and Goddess Karpagambal on the lines of the grand panguni fest at the temple. While the rituals are held at this tiled house, the processions are taken out through the mada veedhis. This photo was shot when the thiru kalyanam ritual was held on Wednesday night, as a finale to the event.
