Starting with Palm Sunday on March 29 and ending with Easter, the following Sunday, churches in the neighbourhood will celebrate Holy week, a week that signs off the long Lenten season.
At the San Thome cathedral, on Palm Sunday, a procession from St. Rapaels to the Basilica will start at 7 am, with people holding palms recalling Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem in the week that ended in his death on the cross.
On April 1, from 9 a.m. to noon and from 3 to 8 pm, priests have arranged confession in Tamil, English, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi.
There is a Sound and Light show at 8 pm on Good Friday after the religious services.
At St Thomas Tamil Church, The Good Friday service starts at 11 a.m. and on Easter Sunday, members of the church are staging a katha kalakshpam ona religious theme – this is open to all, says pastor Koilpillai.
At Our Lady of Light Church, Luz, Fr. Rayanna says that they have not planned any community or cultural events. The Palm Sunday procession will start from St. Isabel’s Hospital at 7.15 a.m. and head to the church. Easter eve Mass is at 11 p.m.
Similar services are scheduled at St Lukes in Mandaveli, St Thomas English Church, San Thome and Good Shepherd on TTK Road, and at Our Lady of Visitation Church on St. Mary’s Road and St Lazarus Church.
