Well-known film director S. Lakshmi Narayana who was fondly called ‘Bapu’ passed away on Sunday, August 31 evening. He was 80 and had been ailing for sometime. He was a resident of Raja Annamalaipuram.
‘Bapu’ was well known for his illustrations and cartoons before he made his debut in films with the Telugu film ‘ Sakshi’ in 1967, said to be they first Telugu film shot outdoors.
He went on to earn a name in cinema and won two National film awards and six of his films won the Nandi award given by the government of Andhra Pradesh.
He was also decorated with the Padma Shri award last year.
