Food festivals for Onam

– On now till September 7 at Sri Krishna Sweets outlets in Mylapore are 30 types of halwas – many fruit varieties including an unusual ‘green chilly halwa’ in celebration of Onam. A kg of halwa purchased will entitle the buyer to a 1/2 kg of ‘karam’ as a gift. Traditional Kerala ‘payasams’ are also available. At Sri Krishna Sweets, 92, Dr. R. K. – On now till September 8 at Alwarpet, is the celebration of Kerala’s specialities made during the harvest festival – Onam. A grand feast is prepared by a Namboodhiri who performs a pooja before preparing the Onam Sadhya, as it is popularly known. – On now till September 14 at Mylapore, is the Onam Sadhya – a gastronomical feast with over 25 dishes priced at Rs. 495 plus taxes. Avial, thorn, pachadi, pulissery, appall, pradaman, puttu, kadala curry and Malabar parotta with vegetable kurma are on the menu for lunch and dinner.
