Here is the Avani Avittam schedule at local temples / venues in this neighbourhood ( it falls on Aug 10.)

Sri Vedanta Desikar Temple

The ceremony will be conducted for Iyengars only and will be held in batches starting at 7 a.m. At 12 p.m. an Adyana homam will be conducted to mark the end of the ceremony. The poonal will be provided by the priests at the temple. The devotees must bring betel leaves/nuts, coconut, fruits, rice, black sesame seeds and the pooja vessels needed for the ceremony. The temple is located at No. 4, K. P. Sannidhi Street, Mylapore. Ph: 24953799.

 

Sri Adi Kesava Perumal Temple

The ceremony at this temple will be held from 5 a.m. Separate acharyas (priests) have been arranged for Iyer and Iyengar devotees. Arrangements have been made for about 500 people to attend the event.

In the evening at 6.30 p.m., Perumal and Nachiyar will be taken on a procession (veedi perappadu) on Garuda Vahanam. The temple is located at Kesava Perumal Street, Mylapore. Ph: 24643873.

 

Sri Kapaleeshwarar Temple

Here, a Pavitra Utsavam has been planned. Homams will be held for three days and the deities will be adorned with a gold poonal. On Sunday morning, a kalasa abhisekham (with nine kalasams) will be performed for Lord Kapaleeshwarar.

Over 400 people are expected to get their poonal changed at the temple. The ceremony will be held in batches from 6 a.m. Ph: 24641670.

 

Sri Velleswarar Temple

About 100 devotees are expected at this temple on Sunday. The ceremony will be held from 7 a.m. Ramakrishnan bhattacharyar, who has been conducting this ceremony for more than a decade, will lead the group. At 30, South Mada Street, Mylapore. Ph: 24611393.

 

Sri Nagalakshmi Narayanamurthy Temple

About 30 devotees will change their poonal at this temple on Sunday. The temple, which was recently renovated, is located at First Cross Street, R. A. Puram. For details call 9444048413.
