On Saturday, July 19 the Cultural Academy in San Thome will be celebrating a glorious 50 years of the institution’s beginnings at 51, San Thome High Road. Founded by the Catholic congregation of nuns called The Daughters of the Heart of Mary, this academy was one of a kind in Madras.
It was an excellent finishing school among other things and attracted young girls from all over India. Everything for gracious living was taught and practiced at Cultural Academy.
This Saturday at 5.30 pm Holy Eucharist will be con-celebrated
by Dr. George Antonysamy, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore and
Dr. Lawrence Pius Dorairaj, Bishop of Dharmapuri.
This will be followed by a programme and a fellowship meal.
Cultural Academy runs a Community College, offers opportunity
to poorer women to earn through their handiwork.
Courses offered include cookery, dressmaking, fabric painting,
spoken English and chocolate making among other useful skills.
