Theresa Thambuswami, the grand old lady of R. A. Puram who was 101 years old passed away on June 25. The funeral will be held at St. Lazarus Church at 4 p.m. and the burial will be at Quibble Island Cemetery. Her niece Josephine said that Theresa died of old age related problems. A spinster, Theresa who was fondly called Sundamma by family and friends studied at St. Raphael’s Girls School, San Thome, did a sports course at YMCA and went on to work for the Post & Telegraphs Dept in George Town. She kept herself fit by going for walks twice a day and had a taste for the good things of life, including going to the horse races in Guindy.
Her family of about 70 members hosted a big celebration on her 100th birthday last August. She lived with her niece at 14, Malayappan Kanagarayan Street, close to St. Lazarus Church.
