Finally, Southern Railway has decided to open the Mundagakanni Amman Koil railway station on the MRTS rail section. A simple and formal start is to be made on Wednesday and it will be fully operational on Thursday, May 15.
This station is located between the Light House and the ThiruMylai stations. Work on it was completed long ago but it was not operated for reasons best known to the Railways.
A small activist group had raised an issue in the naming of the station. One group was in favour of naming it after Thiruvalluvar since a temple dedicated to him is located close to the station campus.
The Mundagakanni Amman Temple is also located in the same area and is fairly well known too.
The first pair of trains will stop here before 5 a.m. and the last pair close to 10 p.m.
