A special Easter vigil Holy Mass was held at the San Thome Cathedral on Saturday night celebrating the resurrection of Jesus after his death on the cross.
The open air Mass in English, led by Fr. Stanley, Headmaster at St. Bede’s School, San Thome began at 9 p.m. with rituals like the blessing of the water and oil and lighting of a giant candle-stick, a symbolic of Jesus’ resurrection giving new life to people who follow him.
Over 2000 people attended this Mass.
This was was followed by a special Easter Mass in Tamil which went past midnight.
Similar services were held on Saturday/Sunday at local churches like St. Thomas English Church and St. Thomas Tamil Church.
