Over 100 people were detained by Mylapore police today, Sept.25 after they staged a protest against a TASMAC-managed liquor shop that is located on one side of the MRTS rail station in Mandaveli.
The protests were led by members of the Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam. Women and youths who live in this area also joined the protest.
They said that the menfolk were addicted and that the existence of a liquor shop in a residential area affected their lives and that it should be moved out.
At night, this shop becomes a the hub of activity with clients hanging around it till it closes down.
The protestors were moved by vans to a Corporation community hall on C P Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet.
