Vocalist Sudha Ragunathan has been chosen for the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi title given by The Music Academy, Madras for 2013.
This award will be given to her at the end of the Academy’s Conference on January 1, 2014. She will be presiding over the Conference which starts in mid-December.
A sishya of late M L Vasanthakumari, Sudha is now a top tanking artiste who performs all over the world. She will be the first of her generation of artistes to be decorated with this title.
She is a Padma Shri awardee and resides in Chennai.
Senior dance guru Chitra Visweswaran of Chennai is to be decorated with the Natya Kala Acharya. This will be given to her at the start of the Academy’s dance fest on Jan.3, 2014.
Sudha used to live in Abhiramapuram till recently and has moved to Cenotaph Road. Chitra lives in Alwarpet.
The other artistes chosen for a host of Academy awards are – Vocalists D. Pasupathy and Kalyani Sharma – Sangita Kala Acharya.
